We just finished eating Mexican Food at Morellas. We ordered bunuelos to go, got in the car and started eating them and found this little guy inside. I called the manager, he wouldn't even talk to me but kept saying "we have no cockroaches here, not one" repeated over and over. I told him if he wasn't willing to talk to me then I would talk to the health dept. On Monday. He said, "you can call anyone you want but that did not come from here". We will never eat there again, (it was one of our favorite places) and I will call the health dept. on Monday. I cant seem to insert a picture, but it is of a good sized cockroach.

I have been coming here frequently for the past few years. I didn't like it at first, but then I found something yummy - their chili verde burrito. As others have said, the salsa is really good. The chips used to be really good too, but they changed them recently. I also don't like their enchiladas at all. Still, I suggest giving this place a try.

Laura Special. I repeat, Laura Special. This is a great little place. It is little, the parking sucks and there is almost always a wait if you go normal hours. But ... some of the food is great. I am sorry, but I don't care who you are, beans and rice is bland. Here is no exception. If you get a bean and cheese burrito - there ain't much you can do with that. Also - this is Utah and there aren't many good Mexican places around. (that I know of anyway!) However -Morelias has great salsa, good service, a few of the meals I have had were fantastic and others were okay. Still, I like mom & pop type places and you should try it. BTW - we took our neighbors and they said the sopapillas are the most authentic they have had in the valley.

Several of our friends love this restaurant, so we came on their recommendations. We don't get their enthusiasm. The food was just okay. We had to wait, and parking was tricky. Maybe we should give them another try.

My wife and I had heard good things about Morelia and decided to try it out. We found the food to be average. We drove there from downtown SLC and decided there were several good Mexican Restaurants closer to home. The service was good if only the food matched.

Not the best Mexican but not the worst ,I love the chips and salsa here,I usually get the chimichanga combo and it's good. Service has always been great.

I've had better. Salt Lake has a few really good Mexican restaurants. This is not one of them. Food: Blandy McFlavorless is what I named my chile verde burrito. Service: The place is small and every time I come here, it's busy. I'm guessing it's because of the mall nearby. It adds to the frustration because the food isn't great AND you have to wait for it? No way. I come here when friends select the spot but it would never be my choice. There's better ... Go get it.

Wow. What happened here? I loved this place once upon a time. I'm not a fan of spicy food, but even I found the dinner here bland and unexciting. The flauta plate had just one item on it that made my taste buds wake up, and that was the beet slice. I hate beets. The price was what I expected from a place like this. Just fine for a family Friday night out. Perhaps they can take some of the money I paid and invest in some spices. The portions were good, they include rice and beans and a small salad on the platter meals. I didn't leave hungry, but I could have had flavor like this or better from a can at home with some creativity from my spice cupboard. I understand it's a locally owned joint and they have a very loyal following, but they need to spice things up or they won't be able to hold on to them for long. I'll finish with the parking. There's not enough parking.

This is probably a pretty average place for Utah Mexican food standards, below average for most other places that know real mexican food. I'm not one that rolls up the fresh mex / tex-mex genres in "mexican food" either. Would put this in line with La Puente, La Frontera, Su Casa, and the likes of sit down. There are some that are better in the valley. Get here early, it seems to be popular on weekends, limited parking, seating.

This restaurant was not great and a little bland, the salsa tasted canned, and they service was not welcoming. There was a busboy (named Ahdrian I think) and he was very awkward. I have a special needs son and Ahdrian was staring at him the whole time. I tried to confront him about it but he mumbled "hehe" and walked away. Overall I'm disappointed but it could have been worse, at least the tamales was decent.

I love this restaurant! My Mom and I have been going for years and it never disappoints!

I took my son there for Cinco de Mayo. I love this place. The salsa is outstanding and I love the cheese enchiladas. The chile verde is good, as is the rice. I like that they serve Pepsi products because I'm not a fan of Coke products and it seems like most places have Coke products these days. When I go here, I try to go before the dinner rush. The wait can be long sometimes and the waiting room is very tight when full of people. The parking situation here is challenging, as other Yelpers have pointed out. I'm ok with parking and walking, but it may not be convenient for the elderly or disabled during peak times. Overall, the service is pretty good. The food arrives at our table lightning fast most of the time, which is good when my teenage son is starving. He always leaves full(the boy eats like a horse). The owner David is very nice. I like supporting our local businesses. These people seem to really care about their customers.

Great food. Always consistent. David's Burrito is my favorite. Nano rocked as our server. Tasty salsa. Ask for the medium if you want a kick.

Don't expect quick servixe. Refils or quality. The beans were poor quality canned beans. Its great if you have a huge family and don't want to spend much.

I went for birthday lunch with group of ppl. Wow! The food was great, great presentation, and ver convenient parking. Even the price was very reasonable for amount of food you get. I loved it and will definitely go back for some more!

One of my favorite restaurants. It is owned by a local family that is very friendly and seems to know all their customers by name. Great food with great prices. I recommend the Laura special, or the Larry miller combo will give you a taste of everything. I have eaten everything on the menu and it all is great, especially with a cerveza or margarita!

We have been faithful customers for nearly 20 years. It has been a long standing favorite of our entire family and many of our friends. The owners serve up authentic Mexican fare from original recipes from their families hometown in Morelia, Mexico. Their salsa is a hands down favorite, fresh and delicious. Other favorites include the shredded beef enchiladas, chilli rellenos, great chili verde and the toritos rancheros can't be beat (spicy and oh so flavorful). Can't wait to go back every time!

My favorite, food is great & salsa is to die for. Owner, Dave, is a really nice guy who cares for his customers.

I came to know this place because it was a favorite of my wife's family, and now my wife and I have frequented it over the years. Review look not great on here. I dunno, don't know what to say except that I love the place. I get the flautas, my wife always gets some kind of pork option. The chips and salsa are some of my faves, I LOVE getting a sopaipilla for desert, and as always, I give extra points for serving Pepsi. The wait can be a nightmare on a Friday night, parking sucks, and the wait room is seriously claustrophobic, but once seated, I have no complaints.

I've been eating here for as long as I can remember! The food is always hot and fresh! The customer service is always excellent... And I always leave full and happy! Great prices and large portions! I highly recommend eating here if you haven't already!

¡FRACASO EPICO! Talk about bland. Morelia is as gringo as it gets made worse by lack of spice. My wife's family has been coming here since before we met (30 years perhaps) and it used to be very good Tex-Mex. Luckily the wife's just gets better with age. (Yeah,... she's brings a lovely blend of heat and spice!) But I'm sad to say, Morelia's kitchen has lost the love. Chili Verde is my barometer when it comes to gauging the quality of a Mexican meal. Call me strange, but I'm kind of fond of green Chili in my Verde. Apearantly the chef at Moralia is not. I couldn't finish after suffering through the little mealy beads of meat. Enchiladas are hard to screw up. Moralia provides a an enchilada that any kid could eat. There is zero heat. I like a taco with a fresh fried shell. They do that, but poorly. We're talking greasy shell, dry meat, wads of lettuce and a fetid slice of tomato. To add insult to offense, it is tomato season... don't ask me how you screw that up but they do. If there is any saving grace, Morelia has perhaps the cheapest beer I've seen in years. Mexican imports for under $3! Morelia: Te quiero no más! ~m

The food was excellent. I have been coming here for years. The enchiladas are great. Order the nachos you won't be disappointed.

Best Mexican food in Utah! Some may be more spicy but Morelia is consistently great!

  • Jon H.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been going there for 20 years now and the food has remained the same. Some restaurants are inconsistent from one day to the next but you can always count on the same consistency each visit. The #2 is my favorite and sometimes #1 and the salsa is the best around! David and his family own it and you can always find him behind the counter cooking. Great family owned restaurant!

Good place, nothing above par but good. The menu seems to be kind of the standard American Mexican restaurant but hey if it was significantly different I'm not sure what I would order. The prices are good and the service was good. Things to know- parking is limited and there isn't a whole lot of dining area. I would say it's also a titch above loud. Give it a try.

I have driven past this place a million times and since i was in the area and craving mexican food i decided to try it for lunch. Place is packed, a good sign, right? Uh yeah me thinks not. I ordered the lunch special, chili verde burrito with beef taco. Taco was ok but the chile verde smelled horrible and tasted funky, i couldnt even eat it and i told my server, he gladly got me something else. I had the bean burrito and cheese enchilada. At least it did not smell. For $5.25 it wasnt bad and i think thats what brings the masses in. Cheap but not good.

This is our "go to" place when we are really hungry. It's like comfort food when I can't get my mom to cook. The rice is a lot like my mom makes it...not too salty. I really like the rellenos, and the chile verde burrito. They serve their food hot, which I love. I know this is weird, but I really like their potato tacos. Food is pretty consistent. My husband loves the Quesadilla Morelia My only gripes are the parking and that they don't serve coca cola.

We've been coming to this restaurant since it opened...20 or so years. We've had Mexican food all over the country and this ranks right at the top of our favorites. The best chef/owner, native of Mexico, that we've seen. Salsa is amazing as well as the chili verde. Guests are always treated as family. Love this place!!

    (5)
  • Ashley R.

The good: Salsa. Tastes just like home made. The bad: The chile verde, the burritos, the service, the fact that they won't split your bill if you have more than 5 people. We had 6 and three of them were kids. We wanted 2 tickets and they would absolutely not do it. Really really inconvenient.

  • Charles S.

Decent. Run of the mill. Not authentic in any way shape or form. Morelia serves up typical bland Americanized spiceless Mexi food. The quality is good and the food is fresh, but if you're looking for unique, hot, adventurous or authentic then keep looking... Someplace else. Authenticity: 1 star. Cleanliness and quality: 4 stars.

I've been going for years. It's my favorite Mexican Restaurant. I've eaten all over the US and Mexico. It's the best!!!

  • Adam A.

Food had no taste. Salsa was bland. Service sucked. But it was packed. I don't understand the draw to this place. Do people not know any better? And to say that you have eaten all over the US and Mexico and this the best place. Not even close.

If you like Lynn Wilson tortillas smothered with a pound of Kraft cheddar-jack cheese and filled with some mildly seasoned ground beef, accompanied by canned beans... then this is your place. The only problem with that is... there are a plethora of americanized Mexican joints that cook this way in Utah, this one is probably the most crowded. I'm confused. Why is this place always jamming? For me, I'd rather eat some more authentic Mexican, the way it should be cooked. So, I'd rather hit up one of the taco carts a few blocks south in Midvale.

Mediocre food, dismal service. Great chips and salsa.

It's the type of casual place you can find when you want good tasting food during lunch. I imagine this is what you would find in Morelia in central Mexico. I would bet those who do not like this place actually want Americanized Mexican food. This place was delicious and the food settled in my stomach well indicating quality ingredients.

  • Lindsey B.

Hands down the best Mexican food I've ever had. I am obsessed with this place. You want a bean burrito with cheese? That is exactly what you get. It isn't stuffed with fillers and rice and such like so many other places. Definitely get the churros, no matter how full you are!

Morelia's is the perfect restaurant if you want greasy, bland food, poor service, a belly ache, and do not like authentic Mexican food. I wouldn't have chosen Morelia's but my 90 year old grandmother loves it so I gave it a try.... We arrived arrived at 11:10am to avoid the lunch rush. We were seated quickly and our waiter brought us chips and salsa (no water) but we didn't see him for quite some time (8 or 10 minutes). My grandmother started choking on chips and salsa and still no waiter. When he finally came grandma told him, "I need water." Then he turned and looked to me for my order and poor grandma had to say, "Right now. I need water right now." It did not take very long to receive our food once it was ordered. Unfortunately, that was the only decent thing about Morelia. Grandma ordered a chicken enchilada and chili relleno, I ordered nachos, hoping it was safe (how can you screw up melted cheese on chips?). Grandma's meal tasted like ketchup was used as a main ingredient. My nachos were bland as hell. I don't remember the last time I tasted anything so devoid of flavor. When I asked for hot sauce the waiter brought back a small bowl of sauce that was not hot or flavorful. May as well have had a bottle of grocery store salsa. I was surprised how difficult it was to get out of the restaurant with my grandmother. Not only were we cut off and literally pushed by customers (which I expect, Utah doesn't have a lot of courtesy outside of church on Sundays) but the restaurant staff were terribly rude and inconsiderate of a 90 year old woman with a walker. Overall, it was TERRIBLE. Taco Bell across the street has more authentic and tastier food. (BARF.)

Overall we enjoyed this place and would go back. Got an average tasting margarita that was surprisingly cheap (about $3.50) compared to most restaurant prices. My girlfriend ordered the cheese enchiladas which were very very cheesy, no complaints from us. I ordered a Chile Verde chimichanga platter with rice and beans. The rice was cooked perfectly, beans were bland and paste-like but the Chile Verde was excellent. Service was friendly and food came out very quickly. Fun place.

the chilie verde is simply craveable. Try the taco and enchiladas as well.. Hot churros if your not totally stuffed from you dinner and fresh salsa. BIG FANS

This is my favorite traditional Mexican restaurant. They have the worlds best ground beef taco. Get a taco & cheese enchilada combo and you will love it.

This was probably my first Mexican food experience in SLC. I moved from a city populated with only like 5 Mexicans, so needless to say there weren't any good authentic Mexican restaurants! Morelia seems (and tastes) authentic, but in a fast service kind of way. So short of dining at a Mexican family's home, or waiting 40 minutes for your food, this seems about as authentic as it can get. It's nothing fancy, but of fantastic quality and very affordable! I like the decor as well. The booths are large and comfortable and you get a good view of the variety of masks on the walls. Here is my list the pros and cons of the Restaurant Morelia experience: Pros: The food is really great. Service is awesome, although every once in a while you get a sassy middle-aged waitress with a bad attitude. There are Mexicans taking your order and making your food, which, to me, gives the place a sense of authenticity. If not, it would be like going to an Indian restaurant owned by a white guy from Arizona who learned how to cook Indian food from a book. Not authentic. Anyway, it's not like that and I prefer it that way. :) Oh and did I mention the prices? You can easily fill yourself under $7 a person. I like that. Cons: Parking is HORRIBLE. It's busy almost all the time, but especially around lunch. Whoever designed that parking lot was a fool in my opinion. People have to park in the neighborhood and walk or across the street in the other business parking lot. Too many people don't know how to navigate their SUVs in the small lot there is so it's a frightening experience for everyone. But once you get inside you rarely, if ever, have to wait to be seated. I highly recommend if you're in the South Murray area.

Restaurant Morelia is one of the best Mexican food restaurants in the Midvale/Murray area. I find it funny a Taco Bell is right across the street! Whenever I have a craving for GOOD Mexican food I always go here, and they have yet to disappoint. I especially enjoy their enchiladas. Sometimes the service can be slow or disorganized (hence the four stars), but it has only been a problem once or twice. The food is more than worth it!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
